The process of creating a wireless home network can be completed in less than 10 minutes. These simplified directions make the following assumptions:

• Your Verizon 9100EM or 9100VM router has been installed and you can access the Internet.
• You have a wireless network adapter installed in the computer you’re connecting to the wireless network. You can use Device Manager if you’re unsure whether you have a wireless adapter installed. To check, Click Start, right-click My Computer, select Properties, click Hardware tab, and click Device Manager. Expand Network Adapters category on Device Manager.

To create your Verizon 9100EM or 9100VM wireless network:

1. Click the wireless connection icon () in the right Taskbar next to your clock information.

2. Select the wireless network you want to join when the list of available wireless networks displays.

3. Select Connect automatically to automatically connect to this network each time you log in to your computer.

4. Click Connect to join the selected wireless network. The status will change to “Connected.” [Show Me]

5. Enter your network's security encryption key (WPA2, WPA, or WEP) in the Security key field. Your router was configured by the manufacturer to use WEP encryption and includes the WEP key on a label affixed to the bottom or side of your Verizon 9100EM or 9100VM router.

• If you have improved your network encryption by upgrading to WPA2 or WPA encryption, enter your updated encryption key.
• If you have forgotten your network encryption key, you can access your router's configuration utility to find it.

6. Select Hide characters to replace your entry in the Security Key field with dots to improve security.

7. Click OK.

8. Congratulations, your computer is now connected to your wireless network. The next step is to test your new connection.

Your network's current network security encryption key (WPA2, WPA, or WEP) is stored in your Verizon 9100 router. As long as you know your router's user name and password, you can access the security settings where the network encryption key is stored.

Note: The Verizon 9100 security screens and prompts may vary slightly from the directions below, depending on when you purchased your router and the version of the firmware loaded on it.

To display your Verizon 9100EM or 9100VM network's security encryption key:

1. Open your Web browser and enter http://192.168.1.1 in the Address field.

2. Enter your user name. If you didn't change it when you configured your network, the default user name is admin.

3. Enter your password.

Note: If you didn't change the default password when you set up your router, it may have been changed to your router's serial number to provide greater security. You can find your router's serial number on a label affixed to the bottom or back of your router.

Note: If you've forgotten your user name or password, you must reset your router to the factory defaults to access the configuration screen.

4. Click the Wireless Settings icon.

5. Click Wireless Status in the left navigation panel. [Show Me]

6. Look for the Security enabled section of the Wireless Status screen. [Show Me]

7. Your encryption key is displayed next to the type of encryption you are using. For example, if you're using WEP, the encryption key will display in the WEP 64-bit or WEP 8021.x field. If you're using WPA2 or WPA encryption, your encryption key is displayed in the WPA2 or WPA field.

8. Write down you network encryption key and keep it in a safe place for future reference.

9. Close the router configuration window.

10. Close this pop-up window to continue setting up your Verizon 9100EM or 9100VM wireless network.
