A DMZ (demilitarized zone) is either a small network or computer host that is inserted between a private network and the Internet for security purposes. It provides a neutral zone that helps prevent outside Internet users from getting direct access to your computer.

While having a DMZ is an optional setting, it does provide more security than a firewall and essentially acts like a proxy server by limiting the access of outside Internet users to your DMZ host.

If you are having difficulty connecting your online gaming device, you may need to open the DMZ on your home router for that console.

1. Open your Web browser and enter http://192.168.1.1 in the Address field.
   
2. Enter the router username and password.
   
   If the username and password has never been changed, then the default login will apply:
    

  3. Click the Security icon at the top of the screen.
  4. Click DMZ Host.
  5. Enter the IP address of your game console and click OK.

3. When the D-Link Configuration screen displays, confirm that the Advanced tab is selected and click DMZ.
4. Enter the IP address of the game console and click Enabled. Then click Apply to save your settings.
