The home phone service you grew up with has been reinvented. Those old copper wires (analog) have been replaced with super powerful fiber-optic lines, delivering full-bodied sound, intelligent calling features and incredible reliability through Fios Digital Voice.
What is digital phone service?
Digital phone is a simplified version of VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) for homes and businesses, offered by telecom companies like Verizon. But what is VoIP?
Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) uses a broadband internet connection to make voice calls, as opposed to a traditional analog phone line that sends electrical pulses across copper wires. VoIP and digital phone services convert your voice to a digital signal and allow users to place domestic, long-distance, and international calls, just like a traditional phone line.
Fios Digital Voice takes advantage of 100% fiber optic technology to provide amazing HD-like sound that makes all the difference whether you’re talking to your best friend across town or family on the other side of the world.
The Difference Between Digital and Analog Phone Service
Years ago, analog phone service, also known as Plain Old Telephone Service (POTS), was a perfectly good solution for placing calls from person to person — because it was the only technology available. Analog phones, which convert your voice to electrical signals that are carried across copper telephone wires, are susceptible to electrical interference, "crossed lines", and poor sound quality.
High-speed, broadband internet connections and fiber optic technologies have changed all of that. Enter: Fios Digital Voice. Verizon's digital phone service connects to your household phone jacks using standard telephone equipment and your modem. Your call is converted into a digital signal that travels along a network of optical fiber cables, providing you with clearer call quality and additional features, such as anonymous call rejection, voicemail notification, and smartphone and TV integration.
