Smart Family

Introduction

Smart Family service allows you to set time restrictions and usage limits for each device on your account and allows you to monitor call and text activity, establish content filters, and monitor the website and app activity for lines you designate as child lines on your account. Smart Family Premium service adds an additional feature that allows your family to locate each other’s devices.

Smart Family’s privacy practices are covered by Verizon’s Privacy Policy as well as the practices described here. In the event of a conflict between the two policies, the practices described in this policy govern when you are using Smart Family services.

Information we collect and how it is used.

We collect information when you set up Smart Family services, including the content filters and time and usage restrictions you choose for your lines and the name and age of users for lines you designate as child lines.

We also collect information about your use of Smart Family services, including approximate device location from the wireless network. When you download and use the Smart Family parent app or companion app, we may also collect identifiers and precise geolocation from your devices. This information may be collected from all lines on your account, including lines you designate as child lines which you may choose to be used by children under the age of 13. When you install the Smart Family companion app on a child’s device and set up the Smart Family Virtual Private Network (VPN), we may also collect website and app usage information from that child line. When you set up content filtering for a companion device, the companion app will access the companion device’s IP address and the websites and apps requested by the companion device. When you install the Smart Family companion app on a child’s device, we may also collect information from the contact list on the child device.

We use this information to deliver, maintain and support Smart Family services, such as providing you with location information for the devices on your account, and for analytics.

We do not collect more information from designated child lines than is reasonably necessary to render Smart Family services. Smart Family does not enable users of child line devices to make their personal information publicly available.

Information we share.

We share personal information with vendors and partners who work on our behalf. These vendors and partners may use personal information shared with them only for purposes related to providing Smart Family services to you.

Your choices and controls

When setting up Smart Family services, parents are asked to provide consent for the Smart Family app to collect device identifiers, geolocation and website and app usage from designated child lines for the purpose of providing precise geolocation and web and app activity monitoring services. Parents may revoke this consent at any time; however, if the consent is revoked, Smart Family precise device geolocation and web and app activity monitoring services will not be available within Smart Family for those child lines. Parents may also review the device identifier, geolocation and web and app usage that has been collected from designated child lines. For more information or assistance with these choices, you can contact us at verizonsmartfamily@verizonwireless.com

Parents may choose to share device location with each other or with all Smart Family members. Parents can view or change their location sharing choices in the Smart Family app or in My Verizon.
